In most cases, glaucoma can be successfully managed to preserve vision and comfort. Management is done primarily through ongoing monitoring and pressure-reducing eye drops, though oral medications and surgical management options can be leveraged if eye drops alone are proving insufficient.
Our management program is individualized and constantly assessed to ensure its performance. Preserving vision quality is the single most important objective of any management program we develop for you.
Since we opened our doors in 1986 we have worked with thousands of patients in Lethbridge (and surrounding communities) to help manage their glaucoma.
We stay on top of developments on our field, enduring that we incorporate new and proven therapies as they become available.
The doctor/patient relationship is critical in order to ensure the best possible outcome throughout the glaucoma management process.
Our focus as medical professionals is to balance your quality of life with the needs associated with successfully managing glaucoma. Transparency between us is critical in order to ensure success.
We will meet regularly to examine your eyes and assess their health. These exams and conversations inform our management strategy- when needed, we will adjust our strategy in order to provide the best results.
We are proud to say that the vast majority of our patients that work with us to manage their glaucoma are successful in preventing any further vision loss. This success is due to using modern therapies and rigorously monitoring your eye health for changes.
Patient compliance is key to success. Most cases of vision loss from glaucoma under management occurs when the patient discontinues their management routine (due to the perception that it is “no longer needed”). If your management program causes discomfort, or if you are looking to make changes, do not discontinue our prescribed treatment until meeting with us first.
Since we first opened in 1986 we have watched the way glaucoma is diagnosed and treated evolve considerably. While glaucoma is indeed a vision-threatening disease that should always be taken seriously, it is comforting to know that it can be successfully managed in most cases.
At Visual Effects, our sole focus is on the preservation of your eyesight. To help us achieve this goal, we utilize the latest in diagnostic and treatment technologies, such as digital retinal imaging and optical coherence tomography.
