Visit Us for Fast Diagnosis & Treatment

If you are experiencing an eye emergency, please call us so we can provide appropriate next steps. Please do not schedule your visit online if you require emergency treatment.

Any situation where your eye health or vision quality is at immediate risk is classified as an eye emergency. This can include foreign bodies lodged in the eye/under the eyelid, chemical burns, sudden vision loss, eye pain, or other situations where medical help is needed to restore vision.

The eye is a delicate organ that requires urgent care when subjected to trauma. Eye pain is not normal and requires medical intervention.

After determining the scope of the emergency, we will provide next steps. While we can handle many emergencies, injuries that require surgical intervention should be immediately directed to the closest hospital.

In many cases, hospitalization is unnecessary- our Optometry practice is capable of providing in-depth care for most types of emergencies.

Our practice is located in the Lethbridge Centre.. Note that we are accessible from the parking lot only- there is no internal building entrance.

Quick Diagnosis & Effective Treatment is Critical in Preserving Eye Health.

Accidents happen, and when they do, know that we can help. As a full-service Optometry clinic, we have the equipment, staff, and ability to care for your eye during most non-surgical emergencies.

In other words, unless you’re wounded and require hospitalization, we will be able to quickly diagnose and care for your eye during an emergency situation.

Important: How to Wash Debris/Chemicals From Your Eye

When a foreign body, such as sawdust, or a chemical, such as a cleaning product, find their way into your eye, removal is priority number one. If you have an eyewash station at home, use it in conjunction with sterile contact lens solution or cool, clean water.

If you do not have an eyewash station:

  • Fill a jug, or another object that pours well, with sterile contact solution (if none is available, use cool, clean water).

  • Standing in the tub/shower, tilt your head back so that your face is perpendicular to the ceiling.

  • Gently pour the solution/water into the affected eye, blinking frequently.

You’ll want to rinse your eye for at least 10 minutes, even if your eye feels better after just a minute or two. Because of how our eye sits in its socket, chemicals and debris can find themselves lodged under the eyelid and near the back of the eye. It is important to rinse as much of the contaminant as possible.
