The Alberta Association of Optometrists (AAO) recommends that healthy Albertans have eye exams every one to two years (unless otherwise recommended by an Optometrist). This frequency will be the most effective at detecting hidden eye diseases, including vision-threatening diseases (such as glaucoma) that often develop undetected.
Most eye exams are completed in under an hour. Due to our use of advanced imaging and diagnostic technology, our eye exams are non-invasive and completely pain free while also being extremely accurate.
Visual Effects is proud to offer Optomap, which is an ultra-widefield retinal imaging device. This unique piece of technology allows your optometrist to view more of your retina in a single image and making it easier for them to detect changes that may indicate eye disease or another serious condition is forming.
To help safeguard your vision, all adult eye exams performed by Visual Effects now include complimentary optomap imaging.
We direct bill Great-West Life, Blue Cross®, Sun Life®, Manulife, Industrial Alliance, Desjardins, Department of Veterans Affairs, RCMP, Canadian Armed Forces, Green Shield, Chamber of Commerce, and Standard Life. Our clinic does the direct billing to your insurance provider.
For companies we don’t direct-bill, we provide all necessary information (receipts, prescriptions, etc.) needed to claim.
With life happening all around us, it’s easy to forget that the things we see are seen due to an incredibly amazing – and delicate – organ: the eye.
As Optometrists, our profession is to keep you and your family’s eyes happy and healthy. The best way for us to do this is regular comprehensive eye exams, where we monitor changes to your eye health and keep tabs on any refractive errors or eye diseases.
In most cases, when sight is lost it is lost forever. Because of this fact, we are strong believers in preventative eye care.
An Optometric Assistant will perform several preliminary tests. These tests provide the Optometrist important information that aids their own testing. These tests include an autorefractor, digital retinal imaging and non-contact tonometry.
All these tests are hands-off and completely painless. For accurate results, it is important that you perform the tests as directed.
The Optometrist will perform a few other procedures, including a slit lamp exam and a test to refine your prescription (if needed).
When testing is complete, you and the Optometrist will have time to discuss any concerns you have or changes to your vision the Optometrist observed. Many eye diseases, such as glaucoma, develop without obvious symptoms; if you have an eye disease, we will walk you through what to expect and our recommended next steps.
Lethbridge’s & Raymond's dry climates can make dry eye run wild, especially in the hot summer months. If your dry eye symptoms are flaring up, visit us for individualized treatment of your symptoms. We’re here to help.
